Media Evaluation: Question 4

Question 4
Create bar charts

My intended target audience for ‘FrSh’ are, both male and females between the ages of 16-25 who enjoy Grime/Hip-Hop/Rap music. For the initial introduction of ‘FrSh’ I will be targeting 16-25 year olds who live in England who are from an urban environment, this is because my chosen genre/s goes hand in hand with urban environments. I will target all ethnicities, but predominantly those of black origins. The older end of my target audience will be C1/C2 as they will have just left higher education or in part/full time employment. I will target this audience as I am aware of the kind of people who follow my genre and I believe that targeting people who fall into those categories will be a success.

Question 2: Demographics
Create your own infographics

I believe that ‘FrSh’ music magazine represents my intended target audience, in terms of what kind of social groups, ethnicity and ages are represented. I intend to target both male and females between the ages of 16-25, who were still in education or have just completed higher education.  I achieved this by using models of different ages to represent the different areas of my target audience. One of my models is still in College, another is studying at university and the other is in full time employment. From my research that I conducted on other music magazine’s I found that ethnic minorities, such as black people, aren’t equally represented in comparison to white people, hence why I took the decision to use three males of black origin for my models. I want to challenge the ‘ordinary/traditional’ conventions that other magazines follow in order to give my magazine a better competitive advantage. The message that I want to portray is that everyone should be represented equally regardless of who or what they are and I think that my representation of black males can illustrate this.
Other magazines whether it be music or fashion tend to use people who are generally wealthy or in terms of demographics are graded as: A/B. However due to my genre being a Grime/Hip-Hop/Rap magazine I chose to represent those who are C1 and C2 as they may have currently just left higher education and looking for work, and many magazines do not do this, for example XXL (Doesn’t apply to the younger audience). My images that I used are true representations of my chose genre, from the costume’s my models are wearing, the type of body language and also the location of my images all give clear representations of the culture behind the genre and as an audience you can distinguish the difference between ‘FrSh’ and another magazine such as ‘Kerrang’. My use of language is a mixture of slang terms that are commonly used by those who follow my genres and formal language. I decided to do this as it appeals to both ends of my target audience range, the lower end of the target audience tend to use slang whereas the older audience members use formal language with some slang terms.
I believe that my representation is a positive one, as I don’t see many other magazines representing my target audience in the same way. I hope that I have challenged stereotypes many perceive of my genre and that I hope to have opened up new positive perceptions towards it.

Music Magazine: Camera + Lighting

The photographs for my music magazine will be taken with Canon or Nikon DSLR camera's. I have had an induction on how to use the camera's and how to operate them properly.

This is a Softbox, Softboxes provide lighting when taking pictures and the mesh over the light prevents the light from being too bright which can hurt the model or photographers eyes. Softboxes are part of the 'Three Point Lighting' which is used to get the best lighting for photographs in the photography studio.

This is a Snoot. Snoot's is the third part to the 'Three Point Lighting' and provides a focused flash of light to the back of the model, this helps to prevent the model from appearing 2D and blending in with the backdrop.

'Three Point Lighting' is made up of two Softboxes and a Snoot, which are positioned in a triangle formation. This provides the best form of lighting needed to achieve good quality images.

Magazine Proposal: Colour Scheme

The colour scheme i will use for magazine will be Green and Black. I have decided to use green, because it connotes "Freshness" which ties in with the name of my magazine. The colour green also connotes "Growth" which could represent the growth of my magazine and how Grime has grown to become a genre that is well respected and recognised. Black is a colour that connotes strength and mystery and i want a element of mysteriousness about my magazine that the target audience experiences, instead of the common predictable magazines.

Both green and black are associated with the grime scene and the colours date back to the origins of the genre. i want to continue that traditional theme on in my music magazine with the aid of Adobe Color. Adobe color allows me to mix the the colours i want to use for my magazine and also gives me recommendations of what colours to use.

Magazine Proposal: Publisher.

My Publisher for my Grime music magazine will be Bauer Media. I decided to use this publisher as they are well established and have a range of platforms which they publish, however they currently do not publish a grime genre magazine therefore leaves a gap in the market. I believe that by using Bauer Media it will give me a competitive advantage as no other grime genre is published by the company.

Bauer media also have a range of radio stations, tv channels and other magazines which they publish, so advertisement and publicity isn't an issue as a range of people will be able to access and see my magazine.
